  • 1.  Five Star methodology used to make maintenance strategy optimization

    Hi everyone,
Does anyone have already heard about "Five star methodology" used to make a maintenance strategy optimization? If yes, does anyone know a book, an article or a post to help me understand a little bit more about that methodology?
    Thanks

    Vinicius,
I believe I have the info you're looking for - full spectrum asset performance management strategies.  Send me your email address and I'll send you some info.

    Thank you!

    Vinicius,
May I ask you a question? Have you read any or all of the books on RCM by Moubray, Smith and Nolan-Heap? I'm assuming that your reference to "maintenance strategy" is as used in the terminology of RCM. Is that correct?

Hi Richard, I have only read the book RCM by Moubray. I will read again in order to find more information.
Yes, "Maintenance strategy" is a terminology of RCM.
I have come across with a study of "Maintenance strategy optimization" where the author quoted the "Five-star methodology" as the method to optimize the maintenance strategies of his plant. Unfortunately so far no one who I have contacted have heard about this methodology.
    I will make more surveys.
    Thanks

I recently reread Moubray which is virtually a match for the other authors. I'm always amazed at what we can forget and drift from with time. I suggest that you reread it with your plant in mind as to how to approach it. I find that the "maintenance strategies" of RCM are the rules of gravity for asset management.

The problem is that to get to the maintenance strategies for every failure mode is largely impossible--RCM. Therefore, how do we identify groups of failures to decide upon the appropriate strategies?

One idea is to get into the history of orders that were given the urgent or emergency priority. Many will be urgent or emergency because the plant was never subjected to a full RCM analysis to assign to them the appropriate strategy. use the history to establish a focus to some process to arrive at the maintenance strategy. Of course, the process will look like RCM because RCM is a foundational design process.

    All,

    Strategy Optimizer™ (formally PMO2000®

This is a tool that can be used from green-filed to brown-field development of equipment strategy development or to optimize your planned maintenance program.
There is a process that accompanies this and it is below.
