This webinar provides a preview of the upcoming book “The Productive Leadership System; Maximizing Organizational Reliability”. It gives an overview of how accountability, Organizational Reliability and Productive Leadership form a system to drive organizational performance. The webinar includes a discussion of the human brain; how short-term and long-term memories are created, long-term memories guide behaviors, consistent behaviors become habits. Habits, over a long enough period of time become the culture. The Organizational Reliability Model and Productive Leaders create guidance and guide behaviors. A productive leadership system is anchored by an asset management system (Organizational Reliability Model) that creates the direction, guidance and asset requirements and specifies accountability. Direction is the organization’s mission, vision, values and objectives. Guidance includes policies, plans, processes, procedures and measures. Assets are the things that are needed to carry out guidance. Accountability is central to both the asset management system and individual leadership. Senior leaders are accountable to set direction, identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOTs), and to then assess, define, authorize and implement guidance and asset changes. Subordinate leaders are accountable to execute guidance with available assets, and to notify senior leaders when there are deficiencies in direction, guidance or assets. Individual leaders should practice Productive Leadership. That is a leader, provided with direction, guidance and assets, using leadership roles, attributes, skills and sources of power to influence others to achieve mission goals and objectives. I review the five leadership roles (expert/technician, manager/administrator, coach, systems thinker and visionary), the five leadership attributes (consistent, attentive, respectful, motivational and assertive; CARMA) and the five critical leadership skills (time management, communication, empowerment, giving/receiving feedback and conflict resolution). The workshop finishes up with recommendations on the elements that should be instituted to create a Productive Leadership Development Program.
