Background

SMRP held its first conference in 1992. Since then, the conference has grown to attract more than 1,000 maintenance, reliability and physical asset professionals and more than 100 exhibiting companies. The SMRP Annual Conference is the premier event for education, certification and networking opportunities, and it is open to both members and nonmembers globally.

 

Purpose

The Annual Conference Committee is responsible for producing a globally-recognized conference and tradeshow for the maintenance and reliability community. The committee works to develop workshops, track sessions, facility tours and networking opportunities designed to educate, equip and excel.

 

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work effectively and collaboratively in a group
  • Demonstrated leadership and professionalism
  • Must be a member in good standing
  • Must review and sign the SMRP Code of Conduct annually
  • Must adhere to the Antitrust Policy

 

Estimated Time Commitment

1-7 hours per month; includes one teleconference per month and other meetings as necessary

 

Responsibilities

  • Serves 1-year term; no prior experience required
  • Shares responsibility with fellow Track Leaders for selecting abstracts in assigned track based on a quantitative review (scoring) of the abstracts
  • Attends meetings to discuss abstracts and other track issues during term; prospective Track Leaders should be aware that there are three primary periods of activity: (1) reviewing and scoring of abstracts; (2) reviewing papers and presentations and providing feedback directly to speakers; and (3) proctoring sessions onsite at the Annual Conference
  • Shares responsibility with fellow Track Leaders for reviewing all submitted presentations prior to publication for formatting, non-commercialism, etc.
  • Attends both days of Conference; Track Leaders should be in room at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the 1st session each day and remain in the room at least 15 minutes after the end of the last session each day
  • Attends the Track Leader meeting on Monday of the conference
  • Shares responsibility with fellow Track Leaders for proctoring sessions during conference (note: it is recommended that two Track Leaders be in room at all times)
  • Proctoring includes:
o Meets and greets track presenters prior to the start of each track session
o Handles any audio-visual issues that may arise and ensures that the correct presentation is on screen and microphone(s) in the room are operational 15 minutes prior to session start time
o Reviews safety protocols and logistics
o Introduces the Speakers (reads bio)
o Ensures adherence to start and end time for the presentation
o Counts and records attendance
o Facilitates the question and answer period
o Thanks the speaker and presents gift at the end of each presentation
o Encourages session feedback through the Conference mobile app
o Distributes and collects feedback forms (if necessary; most attendees will utilize the mobile app for evaluations)
o Works with SMRP staff to address any other issues that may come up during session to ensure all attendees receive best value and all speakers present information without disruptions.

      • Applicants will be reviewed by the Annual Conference Committee Chair to ensure variety in experience, industry, roles, etc. Applicants who are chosen to participate will be contacted by SMRP staff. Please note, submitting an application does not guarantee participation.
