    Hello every one,,,,

I have an issue in storeroom of spare parts.
The store room is very far from some sections and there is no rooms available to make several store rooms in the factory so what i need to ask, can i make a cupboard including the spare parts of a certain section in each section as to eliminate the waste time of transportation between the storeroom and asset or it will wrong to do such thing as

    Karim,

It really does not matter where the spares are physically kept if they are convenient and stored properly. What matters is keeping track of them as inventory and defining the point of consumption. For example:

You have a main storeroom that "feeds" all the section storerooms (cupboards). You will need to decide that when a spare exits the main storeroom if it is now considered consumed or merely transferred to another inventory location (a section storeroom). If the spare is transferred to the section storeroom, then when it is removed from there for use, that is the point of consumption. Maybe your business supports the idea of when the spare leaves the main storeroom for whatever destination, then it is considered consumed and the "inventory" level in the cupboards do not matter.

This is a typical arrangement where there is a main storeroom feeding satellite storerooms. Spares leave the main via a "transfer" which reduces its inventory levels and increases the levels at the satellite. Then, spares leave the satellite storeroom via an "issue," reducing its inventory levels. Returns of course can occur in the reverse direction as needed.

End result is solid tracking of inventory coming in and the consumption thereof.

Hope this helps. Thanks for the scenario! Stop by the TRM or IDCON booths (or our sessions) @ SMRP and lets you and I talk more!

Agree with Todd that from a storeroom execution standpoint, they don't really care where it is stored.  You just have to manage the material movement and inventory levels correctly from where it is stored.

Consider this though when considering where stored.
    • If you can store the material in a more reliable place then it is probably better to do so.  An example is we had an electrical drive stored in a poor storage building (not climate controlled, poor storage access and location).  We decided to move the drives to the area MCC where it is used in proper storage racks for the drive.  The MCC was climate controlled and close to the use point.  It remained a storeroom item but the stores location referenced stored in #MCC as reference.  This was a win/win for the material reliability, storeroom space and ease of use.
    • Storing some items hear where they are used is not a good practice such as spare belts hanging near the use point in the heat, chemicals, etc.  Rubber deterioration my lend the belts half or more used up before they are needed.

Good question and one to ponder on many of our spares.
