Dear All, I am planning to prepare RCM for my plant equipment. Can one share the RCM format?

Along with RCM Preparation procedure steps.

It will be very helpful for me.

I highly recommend purchasing a copy of the book RCM II. Moubray, J (1997). Reliability-centered Maintenance, RCM II.  Industrial Press, Inc. This will be very helpful in understanding the theory and why the RCM is being done. Without this understanding it may be difficult to get good results from your analysis.

For help with preparation steps I recommend downloading a white paper from (https://reliabilityweb.com/articles/entry/reliability-centered-maintenance-rcm-project-managers-guide) (The attachment button doesn't seem to be working for me this morning.) This is a really great guide they put together to help walk through the process. I want to point out a step they mention, as it is the most important part of developing a successful analysis. You must put together a cross-functional team including experienced technicians and operators. Their knowledge and team member acceptance will make a significant impact to the results.

If you do not have access to any specialized software for the analysis you will need to build a spreadsheet to record all the information gathered.  You will find examples with each column having the essential RCM questions that can be asked as you work down through the system, equipment, and maintainable parts in your rows. You will also include proactive actions for each of these in your final columns. If you are using this format it may be helpful to go through the process of building this yourself to fit the needs of your analysis. The layout of this is most helpful if it functions in a logical way for your facilitation.

    Balan,

Although the tips from Jesse is helpful, I would recommend attending formal training in RCM. Facilitating RCM workshops is a skill and requires training as well as practice and mentorship. Downloading a couple of RCM worksheets and reading the book may not be enough! You will get out of it what you put in....

    Dear Balan,

Please analyze whether an RCM project is actually justified for the facility. In many cases, a simple quality circle program combined with a CLTI program for the operators has proven to yield good results. Quality circles involve personnel from the shop floor, where the problems are categorised and are solved by the team themselves with a facilitator using simple QC tools. We have done that in our facility and we have got results through QC programs. Not that i am against RCM, but it is better used for big ticket issues that will garner good returns on the investment in efforts made.

What is a CLTI program? Is it Chronic Limb-Threatening Ischemia (CLTI)?

CLTI stands for Clean,Lubricate,Tighten and Inspect- It is the rudimentary autonomous maintenance program that helps in improving equipment upkeep by early identification of defects.
