My best results have always come from understanding people rarely are the cause of a workplace mistake. People make mistakes but usually they were trained to do something the wrong way or not trained. When people perform inadequately, I approach it as an opportunity for improvement (OFI). When approached as a training failure, the person is removed from blame. In fact, I have often taken the responsibility for the error because as Leader and Manager, if personnel are failing to perform, it is my fault.

Right-on Larry ..... Some that avoid training of their employees say, "What if I train them and they leave?" But what they should be considering, "What if you don't train them and they stay?" The consequences are simply too great to not provide adequate training.

Regular training is mission critical first and foremost for safety, then efficiency and effectiveness in how people perform their job(s).
