Background

SMRP was incorporated in 1992. Since then, membership has grown to over 6,000 members globally. More than 30% of the membership resides outside of the United States. SMRP offers individual, student and executive memberships.

 

Purpose

The Membership Committee was established to review and recommend new member benefits, as well as member recruitment and retention strategies. The committee develops and distributes the annual membership survey, analyzes the results and proposes new serves that attract and retain members.

 

Objectives

  • To provide recommendations on membership dues, benefits, program and services
  • To review and assess effectiveness of member recruitment and retention strategies
  • To oversee the annual member survey
  • To conduct surveys as needed to determine areas for improvement
  • To provide assistance to chapter leaders

 

Committee Expectations

The Membership Committee may consist of up to eight team members. The Membership Committee Chair is authorized to invite more committee members to participate, if necessary. The committee is required to meet the objectives outlined in the charter.

 

Budget & Resources

The SMRP Board of Directors identifies a budget and staff resources annually. The fiscal year runs from July 1 – June 30.

 

Committee Member

Committee members volunteer, or are appointed by the Membership Committee Chair. Terms begin in October, immediately following the Annual Business Meeting at the SMRP Annual Conference.

 

Estimated Time Commitment

1-3 hours per month; includes one teleconference per month and other meetings as necessary

 

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work effectively and collaboratively in a group
  • Demonstrated leadership and professionalism

 

Requirements

  • Must review and sign the SMRP Code of Conduct annually
  • Must adhere to the Antitrust Policy

 

General Duties

  • Provide recommendations on membership dues, benefits, programs and services

  • Provide assistance to chapter leaders

 

Resignation

  • Committee Chairs: In the event a committee member must resign, a 30-day written notice to the Member Services Director is required.
  • Committee Member: In the event a committee member must resign, a 30-day written notice to the Membership Committee Chair is required.

 

Removal

  • Committee Chairs: In the event a committee chair is not fulfilling the general duties of the position, the Member Services Director may recommend removal.
  • Committee Member: In the event a committee member is not fulfilling the general duties of the position, the Membership Committee Chair may recommend removal.
