Background
SMRP recognizes the importance of standard metric definitions for benchmarking and other purposes. The Best Practices Committee publishes the SMRP Maintenance and Reliability Best Practices, SMRP metrics, SMRP guidelines and the Global Maintenance and Reliability Indicators.
Purpose
The Best Practices Committee was formed to identify and develop standard definitions for common maintenance and reliability metrics.
Objectives
- To maintain the current metrics published
- To identify and develop additional metrics needed in the maintenance and reliability community
- To define and develop best practice values to be associated with the use of the metrics published.
Committee Expectations
The Best Practices Committee may consist of up to 10 committee members. The Committee Chair is authorized to invite more committee members to participate, if necessary. The committee is required to meet the objectives outlined in the committee charter.
Budget & Resources
The SMRP Board of Directors identifies a budget and staff resources annually. The fiscal year runs from July 1 – June 30.
Committee Member
Committee members may volunteer, or are appointed by, the Best Practices Committee Chair. Committee members may serve on the committee until asked to consider other committee options by the chair. Terms begin in October, immediately following the Annual Business Meeting at the SMRP Annual Conference.
Estimated Time Commitment
1-3 hours per month; includes one teleconference per month and other meetings as necessary
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to work effectively and collaboratively in a group
- Demonstrated leadership and professionalism
Requirements
- Must review and sign the SMRP Code of Conduct annually
- Must adhere to the Antitrust Policy
General Duties
- Responsible for metric and best practices management
- Participates in metric and best practices review and revision process
- Responsible for coming to meetings prepared (e.g., reviewing metrics beforehand, having comments ready, etc.)
- Provide best judgement in revising metrics and sharing with the committee
- Provide recommendations to implement best practices into a program that benefits SMRP members
Resignation
- Committee Chairs: In the event a committee member must resign, a 30-day written notice to the Body of Knowledge Director is required.
- Committee Member: In the event a committee member must resign, a 30-day written notice to the committee chair is required.
Removal
- Committee Chairs: In the event a committee chair is not fulfilling the general duties of the position, the Body of Knowledge Director may recommend removal.
- Committee Member: In the event a committee member is not fulfilling the general duties of the position, the Best Practices Chair may recommend removal.
