Background
SMRP is committed to helping the next generation of maintenance, reliability and physical asset management students achieve their professional goals through the scholarship program. The Scholarship program was created to provide students with financial resources. Applicants are judged on grade point average, work experience, extra-curricular activities and merit.
Purpose
The Scholarship Awards Committee was formed to ensure SMRP provides scholarships to students and young professionals in fields related to maintenance and reliability, as well as students who are relatives of SMRP members. SMRP awards five scholarships, including: SMRP Legacy of Excellence Scholarship, SMRPCO Dorothy and Jack Nicholas Scholarship, SMRP Scholarship, and two SMRP Higher Standards Scholarships.
Objectives
- To develop guidelines for evaluating scholarship awards
- To evaluate scholarship award candidates and select winners annually
- To recommend new scholarship award opportunities
Committee Expectations
The Scholarship Awards Committee may consist of up to eight team members. The Scholarship Awards Committee Chair is authorized to invite more committee members to participate, if necessary. The committee is required to meet the objectives outlined in the charter.
Budget & Resources
The SMRP Board of Directors identifies a budget and staff resources annually. The fiscal year runs from July 1 – June 30.
Committee Member
Committee members volunteer, or are appointed by the Scholarship Awards Committee Chair. Terms begin in October, immediately following the Annual Business Meeting at the SMRP Annual Conference.
Estimated Time Commitment
1-3 hours per month; includes one teleconference per month and other meetings as necessary
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to work effectively and collaboratively in a group
- Demonstrated leadership and professionalism
Requirements
- Must review and sign the SMRP Code of Conduct annually
- Must adhere to the Antitrust Policy
General Duties
- Participate in annual review and scoring of applicants
- Provide recommendations on application, review and scoring process
- Promote the awards within professional networks
Resignation
- Committee Chairs: In the event a committee member must resign, a 30-day written notice to the Outreach Director is required.
- Committee Member: In the event a committee member must resign, a 30-day written notice to the Scholarship Awards Committee Chair is required.
Removal
- Committee Chairs: In the event a committee chair is not fulfilling the general duties of the position, the Outreach Director may recommend removal.
- Committee Member: In the event a committee member is not fulfilling the general duties of the position, the Scholarship Awards Committee Chair may recommend removal.
