CMRT Exam Team Background

The CMRT Exam Team works to develop and approve new exam items for the CMRT exam. The committee also reviews and approves new CMRT exam forms. The CMRT Exam Team may provide other input and feedback related to the CMRT exam to SMRPCO and SMRPCO staff, as requested.

Purpose of Exam Team

The CMRT Exam Team was developed to write and/or review questions submitted to the Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician (CMRT) exam.

Exam Team Objectives

  • To develop new exam items
  • To review and approve new exam items
  • To review and approve new CMRT exam forms
  • To review poor performing items after an exam form is retired to determine if an item should be edited, retested or retired 
  • To review the CMRT item bank, as needed

Exam Team Chair

Appointed by the SMRPCO Chair, the committee chair may serve up to a three-year term. The chair is responsible for guiding the committee in accomplishing the objectives defined in this charter. The CMRT Exam Team Chair reports to the SMRPCO Chair.

Estimated Time Commitment

1-3 hours per month; includes teleconferences and other meetings as necessary

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work effectively and collaboratively in a group and with SMRP’s testing and psychometric vendor, Pearson VUE
  • Demonstrated leadership and professionalism
  • Understanding of the CMRT program

Requirements

  • Must be a member in good standing and must hold an active CMRT
  • Must review and sign the SMRP Code of Conduct annually
  • Must adhere to the Antitrust Policy
  • Must sign the SMRPCO NDA and other forms as dictated by Policies and Procedures

General Duties

  • Meet with SMRPCO staff regularly to stay abreast of the exam development process, exam development action items and SMRPCO Policies and Procedures
  • Work directly with assigned staff to:
    • Develop committee meeting schedule
    • Ensure distribution of meeting agendas prior to meeting
    • Facilitate discussion during meetings
    • Ensure distribution of meeting minutes and action items
    • Ensure participation of committee members
    • Submit approved items quarterly to staff for inclusion in CMRT item bank
  • Understand SMRP and SMRPCO strategic objectives, budget and resources related to the CMRT program
  • Provide oversight of committee activity and ensure objectives are met
  • To the extent possible, replace one-third of the committee members annually

Having diverse participation at the item writing workshop is key. Applications will be reviewed by the SMRPCO Executive Director to ensure variety in experience, industry, role, etc. Applicants who are chosen to participate will be contacted by SMRPCO staff. Though SMRPCO encourages international certificants to participate, please be aware that you must be available during the times indicated above. Please note, submitting an application does not guarantee participation.
