What should you consider when storing an electric motor?
    How should it be stored?
What maintenance tasks should you perform and when?

There’s a good presentation from an SMRP Carolinas Chapter meeting from maybe 2017 that covers a motor reliant program from a paper factory. They improved storage: clean, away from sources of vibration and vehicle dust, shaft out with a dot on the end of the shaft. They rotated the shafts 1 and 1/4 times a month. They also did MCA on receipt of motors and before installation. They had balancing requirements for fans and the pump end.

If HV motors, this will require proximity to power sources for the dehumidifier heaters.

Just a few quick things I've seen as best practices.

    • Rubber pads stored under motor for vibration dampening.
    • Climate controlled storage environment (low humidity) to combat corrosion.
    • Rotate shafts quarterly several turns with multiple of at least 1.25.
    • Protect shafts with a corrosion preventative coating and wrap to prevent shaft damage.

    1. Keep anti-condensation heater in ON condition.
    2. Rotate the motor shaft at quarterly
    3. Protect shaft from corrosion
    4. Ensure storage area is humid free, if required provide plastic cover or sealant to flange joints/terminal box etc.
