Ok, so a discussion for all but particularly aimed at UK SMRP Members.
I've been a member of SMRP since the early 2000s when I first achieved CMRP Certification back in my New Zealand days. I've been resident in the UK since 2006. Since that time I've always wondered why there isn't a UK Maintenance Society or similar. We have the Institute of Asset Management (of which I am also a member). IAM, in my opinion, is not really targeted at Maintenance Practitioners.
There is no SMRP UK Chapter or similar. The European Federation of National Maintenance Societies did have the Society of Diagnostic Engineers listed as the UK chapter of that organisation a few years back. I did have some engagement with SDE but again, in my opinion, they were not really aligned with what, in my view, would be a beneficial network for Maintenance Practitioners. Looking at the EFNMS website today, I see there is no longer a UK Member group (BREXIT strikes??).
I did approach SMRP about starting a UK Chapter, again a few years back, but at that time I was informed they were not looking to open any more international chapters.
So my question for the 71 UK SMRP Members in the Directory and anyone else interested is:
Would there be value in working to establish (formally or informally) a UK SMRP Chapter/Group/Network?
Depending on the response, I'd be happy to start the process rolling but would be looking for other members to help once established. Not sure what the outcome looks like but depending on member requirements and any SMRP input so will shape up as we go.
Oh, and for those who don't know SMRP & the IAM have a MOU for sharing member benefits. This means if you join one you get access to the other! See here;
