Aspiring Engineers - Turning Predictive Maintenance into Real-World Impact

Clue:  If you're starting your engineering journey, predictive maintenance is a practical way to deliver results fast. By using sensor signals such as vibration, thermal imaging, and oil analysis to spot early failure, you can prevent downtime and make smarter decisions on spare parts and maintenance timing.

Which will make a way for the discussion like:

    • Which tools have you tried-basic vibration meters, IR cameras, or CMMS/EAM systems-and what did you learn?
    • How would you turn a trend like rising bearing vibration into an actionable plan, whether that's an inspection, a work order, or adjusting safety stock?
    • Which single KPI would you improve first-unplanned downtime hours, mean time between failure, or expedite rate-and how would you approach it?
    • How would you communicate findings to maintenance technicians, storeroom teams, and suppliers so action happens quickly?

A quick starter idea will be to shadow a maintenance team for a week, log sensor readings on one critical asset, and map them to work orders in the CMMS.
