We are considering installing Luneta inspection devices such as the Pod, Bowl, and Hub on some of our critical equipment.   There is a concern that these devices may develop leaks or that the valve on the Bowl may fail.  Has anyone experienced leaks with these devices or have any experiences to share?

Scott,

We have used several dozen PODS and a few Hubs w/bowls that have been in service for over five years, and we haven't experienced any issues with the products when installed as instructed.  We did have a few minor leaks due to poor installation (improper thread sealant and/or tightness) that were corrected.  We have them on some pumps, centrifugal blowers, and gear reducers in Water/Wastewater plants.

I am also interested in installing the Luneta pods and hubs. I am interested in how they perform in a dirty environment. We have coal-fired plants and EVERYTHING gets filthy relatively quickly. It sounds like they do fine in a wet environment. I hope to hear from others who have used them in a variety of environments.

Robert,

I'm looking at similar applications.  One is a circ water pump on a coal fired unit.  We have had trouble keeping water spraying from the seals out of the lube oil.  I'll let you know how it works out for us.
