  • 1.  Power BI used on SAP PRD

    Posted 09-26-2023 06:42 AM

I am curious how many out there are using Power Bi with the SAP PRD to run their metrics and analyze the data. We are starting to pull the data from the tables. Our finance department has been using Power BI on the finance side of SAP for a few years already.

I've put together a few dashboards personally and we have a larger corporate analytics group that has been doing more with it. It's pretty powerful - I use it to look at cost data across our fleet, spending by equipment type, etc. but some of the other dashboards are looking at things like WO cycle time, need date and schedule compliance, etc. It's a mix of direct data pulls with HANA connectors and generating SAP reports to CSV files and then pulling the data in from there. Some of the dashboards are also set to pull in Primavera data and other related data sources.

Hi, we use SAP R/3 as CMMS for our maintenance activities (planning and scheduling). For reporting we download on a daily basis the databases from SAP with a software robot, created with UiPath, in a virtual environment and storage these databases in shared files (SharePoint), and all our Power BI reports are fed with these data and scheduled to be updated also on a daily basis, so we assure to have dashboards with (almost) real time information (costs, KPIs, etc.)

I create quarterly reports in Power BI using data I pull from SAP ECC. The way I've been doing it is a bit too manual but I just haven't learned how to automate it yet. I gather the data into excel sheets, do a couple of calculations to get labor hours, labor cost, and MTBF for our top problematic assets. Then I put it in Power BI to create the visuals. It doesn't operate like a true dashboard with real-time data since we don't have data being pulled by an automated system. Looking to improve this after I finish rolling out our mobile work order system.

Our client site uses power BI along with SAP PRD with HANA connectors to generate reports on the asset health-which includes PM compliance,RCA pending status and CBM status along with spend base for the equipment. The data gets pulled from SAP through HANA connectors. One can access the data outside the LAN as well. The reports from the power BI can get downloaded into excel as well. This makes the analysis easier. Of course, we do the calculations for the OEE and the time usage models offline, but the power BI reports eases our work to a good degree.
