  • 1.  Precision maintenance training for technicians

    I'm trying to find a good precision maintenance training course for my maintenance technicians and was wondering if anyone had recommendations? I've found Hendrix Precision Maintenance Services but they were very expensive. I contacted Reliability Solutions but haven't heard back yet.

    Hendrix maybe a little costly but from what I have seen they are one of the best organizations I have seen. It's almost 100% hands on and their staff is made up of people that have spent most of their career in the trenches. They have you do a step and then you measure the results with technology like vibration. One example they showed me in a bearing demonstration was what happened when you installed a bearing on a shaft that was just 0.001 ths over sized. It turned out you see harmonics of running speed in the vibration data. This indicates rotating looseness. I have seen that for years and always recommend having the housing to bearing clearance checked and the bearing to shaft fit checked for an undersized shaft. Turns out because the oversized shaft reduces the internal bearing clearance causing that vibration signature. In 40 years of my work and training no other bearing or vibration class showed me that. When people ask me for recommendations they are the ones I throw out there. They also keep the classes sizes small to ensure everyone participates. I have been to some over the years that are not hands on or so large a few people do the work and the rest stand and watch. I can guarantee if you use them you will not be sorry.

    If your company is a member of OPMUG (Oklahoma Predictive Maintenance Users Group) they are having Hendrix do a training starting on November 7 in OKC.  Members of OPMUG get the training at a reduced cost.  www.opmug.org

    I have used Reliability Solutions for training in the past. The instructors did a great job relating and working with Technicians. We had them come out and provide a multi day training for precision maintenance onsite. https://reliabilitysolutions.net/
