  • 1.  SAP short description algorithm

    I am looking for the best configuration of SAP inventory short description.
    Option 1
    Noun+ Modifier,  OEM, part no., Attributes 
    Option 2
    Noun+ Modifier, part no., OEM  Attributes 

    Please suggest as per  industry best practices.

    I’d suggest using the available SAP fields for OEM and OEM part number. Don’t put them in the text fields…or anything about the supplier/distributor. Anything with digits needs its own field or custom attribute.

    Why?
    You may change suppliers.
    The OEM may update part numbers.
    You may change from the OEM to an aftermarket part: the OEM may discontinue it, or Purchasing may get involved.

    Karl makes an excellent point.  Don't tie your part down to a supplier.  SAP has the ability to have both the part name and modifier, plus information on who is the supplier, don't put your data in a position where it is difficult to seperate them in the future.
