Underground Utility Naming Convention for CMMS

  • 1.  Underground Utility Naming Convention for CMMS

    Hello everyone,
I am embarrassed to say this is my first post on here but have thoroughly enjoyed reading the forum threads. We're in the midst of transitioning from a wide range of applications for managing our municipal assets to SAP as a singular EAM/CMMS. I am curious to know what other utility owners or municipalities have employed as a naming convention for underground pipelines? In our case, we have HDPE wastewater collection, water distribution and storm water systems buried underground across a region that service the urban and rural communities. In SAP, we are confined to a 16 digit alpha numeric FLOC (functional location), which is easy to determine in a water plant, lift station, pumphouse or any other vertical asset. I struggle with the underground services, as they don't fully align with street names and there is no defined boundary. Any advice would be much appreciated!

    Sincerely,
    Justin Canning
