Business value triangle does have some parallels to reliability, but can argue this triangle is mostly related to the overall business in society.  Does the business provide products or services that make our lives better using the fewest resources?

Reliability can be viewed into four tiers:  Right to Operate, Essential Asset Stewardship, Pursuit of Marginal Value and Best in Class.  Right to Operate is the lowest and Best in Class is the highest.

Right to Operate - Safely operating while meeting compliance obligations - staying out of view of regulators.
Essential Asset Stewardship - Take care of the assets to ensure safe operations while meeting compliance obligations.  Staying in business.
Pursuit of Marginal Value - In addition to meeting the performance expectations of Right to Operate and Essential Asset Stewardship, additional improvements are taken on to improve profitability through more complex applications of tools and techniques.  Identifying value through application of reliability improvement.
Best in Class - Industry leader in all three areas of operations while creating the most value for their business as a leader in their industry and peer group.  Trend setter and with innovation at the highest levels.
