Overstressing is perhaps the most common cause for bolt failures, and the easiest to determine as well. The longevity of your bolts, in their functioning at full capacity, depends significantly on their bearing the right amount of stress without having to withstand an excess amount. I have done investigations on bolts failures and on many occasions the wrong sizes and types of bolts used. There are areas where studs should be used and replaced by bolts and nuts and vice versa. Bolts must be torqued and turned according to manufacturer specifications
