Hi Matt, I am not aware of any studies, but have spent many years doing Maintenance Readiness as part of an Operations Readiness team on large (multi-billion USD) greenfield projects. Plenty of anecdotal evidence that doing this adds lots of value, or more accurately, protects the value of the project. It does need to include all aspects of readiness and not just asset strategies, but also organisational readiness, competency, etc.
And from my experience in large greenfield projects, it really needs to start before FEED/DD. Doing a RAM study or RCM early can highlight opportunities to increase value through reduction of maintenance requirements or increased reliability through design changes. Getting those accepted in the Concept phase is hard enough, but trying to do it on a largescale project in FEED/DD becomes exponentially harder.

Subject: Asset Strategy Development in Capital Projects
Good morning all,
I am in the process of researching the successfulness of capital projects that developing asset strategies in FEED/DD as opposed to those that do not (and try to catch up after being put in operation). Is anyone aware of any helpful studies that would be of use?
Thanks,
Matt
