Help people volunteer their counterpoint, often seen as negative input. During meetings speakers often ask, does everyone agree? It is rare for anyone to stand and challenge the speaker, usually a leader of the organization. People naturally want to agree and join the crowd.
Leaders invite alternatives, giving permission to everyone to disagree. Who disagrees or has another idea? Is there a better way or something we have not considered?
We need our colleagues to be comfortable challenging Management and leaders. When leaders offer the opportunity to challenge Management in meetings, it becomes part of the culture and moves out of the offices into the daily operations. Personnel will question what they do not understand and offer new ideas. Everyone joins the effort toward continuous improvement.
