    Hi everyone,
what do you consider as "rework" in your maintenance execution activities? do you have any specific criteria you have defined to classify 'Rework" on specific asset?

    cheers.

    Hi Romeo.
In standing up my plant O&M program I went right to using the SMRP definitions. Everyone in the organization knows my meaning and intent from speaking the 'common language' provided in the SMRP publications.

From the 6th edition of Best Practices, Rework- This metric is corrective work done on previously maintained equipment that has prematurely failed due to maintenance, operations or material problems. The typical causes of rework are maintenance, operational or material quality issues.

What I found interesting is the operations are included as a potential cause for rework. A premature failure can occur where maintenance personnel did everything correctly with all the proper, and non-defective, parts. The RCA, then may reveal that operators aren't running the equipment properly, e.g. improper start-ups, incorrect lubrication rates, running outside of parameters, etc.

    Best, Robert

    Hi Romeo,

I agree with Robert, here my opinion

In the context of maintenance execution activities, rework refers to any work that is performed on an asset in order to correct an issue or improve its performance. This could include fixing a malfunction, replacing a worn-out part, or upgrading the asset to a newer model. The specific criteria for classifying rework on a particular asset will depend on the nature of the asset and the goals of the maintenance program. Generally speaking, rework is considered necessary when an asset is not performing to its required specifications or is not meeting the needs of the organization. In some cases, rework may be required to prevent future problems or to extend the lifespan of the asset.
